Starting a Shopify store in Pakistan is technically straightforward, but the decisions around payments, shipping, product pages and customer trust matter more than simply opening an account. This guide focuses on the practical setup a Pakistani seller should think through before launch.
1. Decide what you are selling and who you are selling to
Before choosing a theme, define your product range, target customer, delivery areas and whether you will sell only in Pakistan or internationally. These decisions affect payment methods, shipping rules, currency and the content your store needs.
2. Choose a Shopify plan
Shopify's Pakistan pricing page currently lists Basic, Grow and Advanced plans. For many new stores, Basic is enough to launch; upgrading makes more sense when the business needs additional staff access, lower third-party provider fees or more advanced features. Always verify current pricing on Shopify before subscribing because plans and promotions can change.
3. Connect a domain and build the store structure
Use a clear domain and create a simple navigation structure: Home, Shop or Collections, About, Contact and relevant policy pages. Keep the first version focused. A store with fewer well-built pages is usually easier for customers to understand than one filled with unnecessary sections.
4. Set up payments for Pakistan
As of September 2026, Pakistan is not listed on Shopify's supported-country page for Shopify Payments. Pakistani merchants therefore need to evaluate available third-party providers for online card payments, or use manual methods such as cash on delivery and bank transfer. Provider availability, onboarding requirements and fees can change, so verify the options shown inside Settings → Payments for your own store.

5. Configure cash on delivery correctly
Shopify supports cash on delivery as a manual payment method. Manual-payment orders are created as unpaid until you receive and record the payment. Shopify's documentation states that third-party transaction fees aren't charged on manual payment methods such as COD and bank transfers.
See the step-by-step Shopify COD setup guide.
6. Set up shipping before launch
Decide your delivery zones, shipping rates, free-shipping threshold if any, expected delivery time and return/exchange process. Test the checkout with addresses from the cities you expect to serve so customers do not discover shipping problems before you do.
7. Build product pages for buying decisions
Each product page should answer the questions a buyer would ask before ordering: what the product is, key benefits or specifications, price, variants, delivery expectations, returns and how to contact the business. Use clear product photography and make the primary purchase action obvious on mobile.
8. Check mobile experience and performance
Most storefront problems become more obvious on a small screen. Check text size, image cropping, sticky elements, variant selection, add-to-cart behavior, menus and checkout flow. Shopify notes that apps, theme code, third-party scripts, images and video can all affect web performance.
9. Add basic SEO
Give important pages descriptive titles and meta descriptions, use one clear main heading, write useful collection/product copy and link related content together. Do not stuff repeated keywords into headings. SEO works better when a page genuinely answers the searcher's question.
10. Run a pre-launch test
- Place a test order from mobile and desktop.
- Check payment instructions and COD flow.
- Test shipping rates and confirmation emails.
- Open every navigation and footer link.
- Check product variants, prices and inventory.
- Review policy, contact and trust information.
- Check image quality and page speed.
What should you spend first?
Prioritize the parts customers actually interact with: a usable theme, strong product presentation, reliable payment/shipping setup and a smooth mobile experience. Apps and advanced custom features can be added when a real business need appears.
